What Are Deltas?

Delta pokemon have a type that is different from regular pokemon of that species; for instance, a fire delta chansey is fire type rather than normal type. Delta pokemon have a glow corresponding to their type and a δ of the same color next to their name. By default, delta pokemon have a single type. The sole exception is if the non-delta pokemon of that species has that type as a single type, in which case the delta version is a double type. They cannot have three types. For instance, magikarp is a water-type pokemon, so the delta water version is double water type. If a non-delta pokemon has two different types, all of its delta species will have single types. If a non-delta pokemon changes from a single type to a double type, its delta counterpart will change from a double to single type when it evolves. For instance, a non-delta apocalyptic growlithe is fire type, and it evolves into a fire/fire type. The fire delta apocalyptic growlithe is fire/fire type, and evolves into a fire type.

Delta Points

Delta pokemon are obtained by spending delta points at the Holon Research Tower. The amount of delta points required to delta-type a pokemon is directly proportional to the exp required to hatch the egg: 5 delta points per 1,280 exp. Delta points are accumulated in the Holon Capacitor, which can be purchased from the Holon Research Tower for 150,000. You can see how many delta points you have in the currency window by clicking the triangle next to your amount of zc. There are three ways to acquire delta points: being clicked by logged-out users; redeeming delta vouchers; and trading in delta, shiny, albino, and melanistic pokemon. Each logged out user (determined by IP address) that clicks you gives you five delta points, with the limitation that you can only get up to 50 delta points (ten such interactions) per day, and that each IP address can only do this once per day (so the same IP address can't give two people delta points). For this reason, trading delta points in this way isn't practical. Delta points can be turned into delta vouchers for a fee in credits (1000 credits for 10 points, 9000 credits for 100 points, or 80,000 credits for 1000 points). These vouches can be traded between players or sold on the market and redeemed for the same number of points: 10 for X, 100 for C, and 1000 for M. (These points do not contribute to the above daily cap of 50 points.) Trading in delta, shiny, albino, and melanistic pokemon also does not contribute to the daily cap of 50 points, and there is no limit to how many delta points you can accumulate via this method. The number of delta points received is again directly proportional to the exp required to hatch the pokemon: 1 delta point per 1,280 exp for a delta, 4 delta points per 1,280 exp for a shiny, 6 per 1,280 exp for an albino, and 200 per 1,280 exp for a melan. So basically you need to trade in 5 deltas, 1.25 shinies, or 0.83 albinos for 1 delta of the same species, which can be useful in melan hunts if you get a lot of spare shinies and albinos, or if you are having trouble getting the right typed delta. Delta points can also be traded for a z-fragment matching the day’s v-wave, for the price of 30 delta points per fragment.

Breeding and Hatching Deltas

There are two factors that can influence the delta type of a pokemon: v-wave and crossbreeding. There is a 20% chance the delta will be the same type as the v-wave. At present I'm not sure if it's the V-wave on the day it's delta-typed or the V-wave on the day it's hatched that matters, but most of the time it's the same anyway. If a parent of the egg is of a different species, meaning the basic stage of the parent is different from that of the egg, the egg has a further 40% chance of being the same type as that parent. If the parent has two types, there is an equal chance the egg will be either of the two types. Therefore, if you're going for a specific type, it's best to use a parent with a single type. If both parents are different species than the egg, there is an equal chance of the egg's type matching either parent.

QUOTE originally posted by Niet

Reckon I'll drop in a couple of corrections on odds: - V~Wave: 20% chance to influence Delta type - Parent from other species: 40% chance to influence - The remaining 40% chance, or if the parents fail to influence it, it will be random. Technical details on the breeding influence mechanic: 1. Check the mother. If the mother's Basic stage is different to the egg's Basic stage, then the mother is selected. 2. If the mother wasn't selected, or on a 50% chance, check the father in the same way and select if possible. (This means that if both parents can influence it, it'll be 50:50 which one is actually selected) 3. On a 50% chance, take the first type of the selected parent. 4. Failing that chance, take the second type if it exists, or the first type (again) if not. (This means there's no bias towards one or other type for dual-typed parents)
Delta pokemon do not pass their types onto their delta offspring, at least of the same species. It's possible the delta type is used for crossbreeding influence, but I don't believe so. Delta pokemon have an equal chance of hatching shiny, albino, or melanistic as non-delta pokemon.

Best pokemon for breeding deltas

I've put together a table of the best pokemon to pass a type to their delta offspring, separated by egg group. For the best chance of getting a specific type, combine breeding with the v-wave. Single-typed pokemon have the greatest chance of passing that type onto delta offspring; if a pokemon has two types, they have an equal chance of passing either type to their offspring. Dual type pokemon have their other type noted in parentheses. The table was updated with the assumption that it is the parent’s (non-delta) type that is passed down, rather than the type of its basic stage. I'm getting more convinced that's not the case, so I would avoid using pokemon for their evolved typings.

Delta Type Effects

Delta pokemon don't always follow ordinary rules when it comes to types. I've outlined different situations where type generally comes into play, and where deltas fit in, below: Exp gained as egg: Delta'd eggs do not gain any type-based bonuses to exp, so it's best to delta them right before hatching (as long as you don't forget) Exp gained after hatching: Delta pokemon benefit from type-based bonuses according to their delta type Gems: Delta pokemon yield the same gem types as their non-delta types. Type race: Delta pokemon count as their non-delta types for type race points. Evolution items/fields: Delta pokemon evolve in the same way non-delta pokemon of the same species do. Wishforge: Delta pokemon count as their delta types for wishforge evolutions and interactions, and not as their non-delta types. Field affinity: Delta pokemon use the affinity of their delta type or non-delta type, whichever is more preferable. For instance, a fire magikarp and water charmander will become happy in a fire or water field, even though a water type would become unhappy in a fire field. I have found exceptions to this, but I believe it is a glitch similar to how Glaceon does not become happy in an ice-type field Battles: Delta pokemon have the same weaknesses as their non-delta types, but can use moves designated for their delta types.

Unanswered questions

Does a pokemon with a different type than its basic stage pass on its typing or the typing of its basic stage? (Tentative answer: basic stage typing) What about a pokemon that's undergone a forme change? (Same tentative answer) Which type does a delta pokemon of a different species pass on? (Tentative answer: non-delta type) If I've made a mistake somewhere or you have any information to add, post and I'll correct/add it

I haven't specifically taken data on this so still I'm leaving this in "unanswered questions", but I've tried breeding deltas with a delta ditto, and my impression is that I consistently get more normal deltas, and not deltas of the ditto's delta type. Based on this I believe a ditto parent does increase the chance of a normal delta type (have fun genderless hunters), and that a parent's non-delta type is the only type passed on to offspring.

Can you hatch deltas without using the Holon Capacitor??

No, in order to acquire and use delta points to hatch delta pokemon, you need a holon capacitor

Ok IDK why but I had a dream about hatching shiny and albino deltas and then I woke up and thought it was real XD

yup! At this point I'm relatively sure the pokemon in parentheses won't work (I think it's based on the basic evolution's type), but you can still give it a try

Another question-If I wanted dragon delta dratinis and I have a dragonair/dragonair pair, would I be more likely to get dragon deltas with the /pair, or dragonair with a different pokemon?

With a different pokemon - the type of the parent only affects the delta type of the egg if it's a different species

Observation-Yesterday(last year xD),I delta'd a cleffa egg bred from ss clefairy+spritzee. The delta type was electric, same as the v-wave. Today I delta'd another cleffa egg, and got ghost type, same as todays v-wave. Maybe if you breed from a regular pair the delta type will be the v-wave?
