User Block Option
Forum Index > Core > Suggestions > Rejected >
Suggestion Title:
Add an option to block/mute/avoid users.
Suggestion Summary:
Give users a way to avoid potentially harmful situations with other users. If user A blocks user B, B cannot view A's profile, or send them private messages, and vice versa.
Positive points:
Give users a sense of safety on Pokéfarm regarding who can interact with them.
Cut down on potential for drama on or outside Pokéfarm.
Negative points:
Could lead to mass blocking of a certain user.
Might be difficult to implement on forums.
Reason For Consideration:
Unfortunately the internet isn't all rainbows and sunshine. Harassment, from rude comments and name-calling, to things with real-world consequences like stalking, isn't unheard of. A block user feature would help keep everyone safer, especially users that are under 18.
Sorry but this has been rejected multiple times. If stuff comes up between you and another user just report so it can be dealt with. Blocking is only a bandaid fix that seems to help but won’t actually help in the long term.

I'm sorry but no support this has been suggested and rejected many times, if you have a problem with another player then there is a simple fix to that problem ignore them.
But if they are harassing you then just report it, cause there is no need for a block system on here that would cause to many problems.

Blocking just puts a bandaid over the issue. Let me illustrate:
With Blocking
Bully, to Person A: u suck go die
Person A: *blocks*
Bully, to Person B: go to heckkkkkk
Person B: *blocks*
Bully, to Person C: ur the worst, go commit toaster bath
Person C: *blocks*
[Repeat at infinitum]
Withour Blocking
Bully, to Person A: u suck go die
Person A: *reports*
Staff: *punishes Bully, potentially locking their account if it's bad*
You see? Blocking doesn't help. Just report if someone is harassing you.

Apologies for making a redundant post. I had looked through other suggestions but I must have missed the thread about a block option that had been placed in the 'rejected' section.
I would like to add however that harassment has not been an issue yet for me personally, but I have come across a user who had some fairly transphobic things written in their description. A lot of users I see on this site are transgender. From what I understand (please correct me if I am wrong) there is no explicit rule against it.
At a glance, I imagine that would fall under rule 6 - General Respect. Of course that's a guess since I don't know what's being said.
Your best bet when seeing things like that is to report it. If you see something you think is reportable, report it. Worst staff can do is tell you something isn't reportable.

PFQ B-day thread.
It depends on what is said, but even in the case that the moderators let something slide, what good does blocking that user do anyway? You've already seen what they have to say, so it's not like it protects you from seeing it.
There's just no argument I can see for blocking apart from users wanting a false sense of security. Are they wrong for feeling that way? No, but it's less practical than reporting the content in question.
definate no support.
it will not help anyone in any situation to use a block feature, it was suggested many times and rejected everytime both by staff and the userbase for a variety of reasons.
and if you see something that is what you mentioned before, then report it just in case it is breaking a rule. the mods are pretty chill with dealing with reports so you dont have to worry about that anymore.
PM's welcomed as long as its an actual conversation.

I know this has been rejected before, but I support it. Sometimes people just don't like each other and there's no rule breaking involved. This is the first social site I've been on (at least that I can think of) that doesn't have a block feature--I think giving people the ability to curate their experience is important.
I'd personally like to the ability to "mute" users (similar to how Twitter has both block and mute options) so you don't see their posts either. Not sure how that would work on a forum, though.

I'm autistic, and consequently I often struggle with tone and social cues. Please assume good faith, as I'm usually trying to be polite, and be patient with me.
