Reading the above posts leads me to wonder what happened to the ranking for 'Most Received' and 'Most Gifted' that were once in place? If I recall correctly, the last two years had a story event in place instead... but what of this year, where there is neither? I am assuming that this is because there is no new sprite to release ?

I think with the first it’s ‘cause the competition aspect of it (or perceived competition) caused too much drama/toxicity to the community. (I only remember it super vaguely though so someone feel free to correct me)
