Single post in Sprite Permission Request Thread

Hello! There doesn't seem to be anything on this about 3D models, so I figured I'd ask to make sure. I've been entertaining making a Cobblemon PokeFarm addon that would add albinos and melans into pokefarm, and maybe some mechanics or fakemons that are site exclusive later on. If I'm making these assets based on sprites, but not editing the sprites myself, would I still need to ask permission? Or would giving credit to the original designs be enough?
