Niet;; I did read the copyright information before posting, I am aware of its existence. But it did not provide the information that I was looking for. It does not have a link to a "screenshot, PM, note, email, or whatever" that Nintendo has agreed that it is okay to use the sprites.
I think I read in old PF regarding the matter that Nintendo had simply replied "We don't care", and I can believe they really do not until someone makes $5 billion out of their stuff. But I would still like to see it for the principle of it (and out of curiosity). It covers the main point of the whole site, after all.
Same curiosity applies for Holly's NPC picture, I simply wanted to know who made it. Unless I missed a sentence, copyright just covered the code, UI graphics and sprites.
I feel you're missing the idea that a staff member created the Holly sprite (and the Gen VI) sprites. They, actually, don't need credit since it's the STAFF'S work. Yeah, sure, I'd love to know who made them--but if I'm understanding how PF1 worked, they don't need to credit when the staff makes the sprites/art. I mean, the art for the PokeDex isn't credited to the staff member who made it.
So, honestly--you're trying to make a huge deal out of everything that PFQ does, but they have everything covered in the Copyright. Niet even mentioned that the copyright needed an update, so I'm sure he'll include a few extra things.
And, as far as Nintendo sprites go with Pokemon? They're free to use. And PFQ isn't making money on THE SPRITES THEMSELVES. They're making money based on the mechanics. I mean, even though we buy--for example-- the yellow flute, we don't own the yellow flute anymore than we own the Pokemon games if we bought a copy of Pokemon X and Y.
(Might be a bit of extreme examples here, but... I hope my point is understood.)
Adding to what Smooth Criminal said~
If you look at the Staff Roster, you'll know who the main artists are. And if you had looked through the Minor Updates thread, you'd have known exactly who made the art for Holly, Laurel and Doug. ^^
Edit: My main point is that you might want to familiarize yourself with the site first before going on a huge limb. Most if not all updates are easily accessible.

Smooth Criminal;; I know that a staff member made the Holly sprite, and that it requires no further credit because of that. I was simply pointing out the reason why I made my original post even after reading the copyright information. As I said, curiosity drove me onwards, and curiosity was the only reason I asked.
I am not making a huge deal out of anything that PFQ does. I do not intend to attack PFQ or its rules. I am simply voicing my own opinion regarding art references. I would not be using the site if I did not agree on how PFQ functions, and I honestly have nothing against PFQ.
I understand your point, and thank you for the extra info.
Elfatez;; I am not going on a limb, and I am sincerely sorry if it sounds like that.
I looked through the minor updates thread the other day, but not far enough back, so I missed that info.
Thank you for pointing it out.

Uzumi;; I mentioned Tumblr as that bad example precisely for the reason that people post whatever pictures they find however they want. [...] I just pointed out that it happens uncontrollably and fighting against it might mean banning most of the people who join PokéFarm Q.

Crediting is what I find reasonable. But posting the original source and the permissions is what I disagree with. The source is sometimes someone's private Photobucket account. And I would not like to post screenshots of private discussions to prove that I have a permission to display something.

Also, I doubt I could get a hold of Rumiko Takahashi to ask if I can use one of Ranma 1/2's characters as my avatar. Of course I will credit her. But getting a permission is practically impossible.

I know that some people have serious issues with their art being displayed in places. But that is the drawback of internet in general; if you put something in, you can never get it out.

I'm with Persephone, I'm honestly confused by the resistance from some. In my opinion people shouldn't have to be afraid to post their art online because others will say "it's on the internet, so it must be free to use."
I'm not the greatest artist, not at all. But about 2 years ago I started making MLP:FiM original characters. I later saw someone using my character and artwork I had commissioned of her, claiming as their own on a tumblr account. I reported it and thankfully the tumblr was taken down, but it was still extremely upsetting.
I don't do much art anymore but when I do I always write: "Please, do not use my artwork unless it was done for you or I've given you permission. I'm aware I'm not the greatest of artists on deviantART but that doesn't mean my art is up for grabs to whoever would like it."
The very fact that I have to write that in the first place for people to realize this is... unnerving.
Would I need to credit an image like the one in the hide box below?

Okay, thankees. :3
Also, if you find a background from a website that /says/ that the image is free for people to use, would it be okay to just go with that or should we still try to find the original artist?
Like, I found this image on this website. The website says "FREE HD MOBILE BACKGROUNDS" on it--would that be okay to go by or should I still look up the picture to find the original artist?
What if our deviant Art username and PFQ username are different?
