Animal Crossing New Horizons Log
I cannot believe it's already been a whole week. It feels like I managed to do so little and yet so much. Let's start with some of my thoughts on the game so far.
  • + items stack automatically
  • + more and easier access to storage space
  • + more insect interactions with the world
(flying/ crawling from one individial flower to the next, sitting down at the river edge, etc)
  • + more npc interactions with the world
(sitting down, reading, drinking, playing, etc)
  • + unlimited little tasks to give you ideas of what to do
  • + ability to relocate complete trees
  • + you can see whether you donated something in the critterpedia
  • + transparency in custom designs
  • + ability to place every item outside
  • + being able to do almost everything yourself
    (customizing furniture, creating custom designs)
  • - smartphones
(it's a viable way to implement the menu into the game universe but... I just don't like how everyone, even game characters now are 100% dependant on their smartphones)
  • - you cannot store money bags anymore, why?
  • - moving flowers seems more tedious now than necessary
  • - volume balance is awful
    (especially for fishing)
  • - camera feature being promoted so persistently
(just like with smartphones, I am not a big fan of taking pictures of everything all the time)
  • - need paid online membership to use qr codes
(I understand it would be needed to visit other people via the internet, but simply qr codes? oof...)
  • - smoothed out custom designs
    (i simply love pixel art)
  • - cannot see durability of tools
(probably becomes less of an issue later on)
  • - why can't we craft multiples of the same item at once?
  • - character movement animation exaggerated
(i feel sick looking at my character menacingly bouncing from side to side while running. it's just not for me)
Please be aware that this states only my current opinion on several features, your opinion or experience might vary, please do not take it as a personal attack on you if you happen to see things differently.

Week 2

Day 8

Resident services are unavailable today. At least there has not been much relocating despite Nook telling me about it. Good good. Used up half of my tickets and so far, nothing worth mentioning. Gained a few bells, some materials, a gold nugget. I am aware this is not the way to make a fortune but I was hoping to expand my fruit collection. Fauna is a little isolated over at the left side, having to use a vaulting pole or ladder to get access to the rest of the island. Didn't think about that when choosing the spot for her house, oops. Got a second pink mum sprouting, seems like the other combinations I planted do not produce any hybrids. I'll give it a bit more time though. Again, I went and watered them first thing in the morning just for the rain to mock me shortly afterwards. I hit Patty with a net today. She's constantly sitting in my way and getting on my nerves. Please give me the ability to kick people from my island. I am aware it will probably be like in previous games, the more you ignore a villager the less likely it is that they're moving out. Still, being able to decide who gets to stay and who needs to leave would be nice. On a completely unrelated note, in case you were wondering if villagers can hop over holes: no, they cannot.

Day 9

Am I the only one who thinks Isabelle looks horrible in pink? Why not go for something orange or red or even brown? Ew. Also Tom Nook wanting to make my island more popular? No thank you. If I wanted to live in a well populated area I could've stayed in my New Leaf Town. I booked your Deserted Island Tour because I want to live mostly by myself on a peaceful island with only a few neighbours. But I guess that's no longer an option, is it? The upgraded Resident Services Building really opened up the customisation for outdoors. So many different things I am never going to build! Great. So far, not a good start into the day, maybe I'll take a break for some time. ... You mean to tell me I cannot progress the game without buiding a campsite? That's ****. Guess I'll just put it into the far north east corner and build a wall around it?

Day 10

I met Daisy Mae today and all the bad feelings from yesterday are forgiven. For now anyway. I spent 500.000 bells on turnips, can't wait to see how big my loss will be. (5.500 turnips) Since I decided to not upgrade my house any further I don't have any use for all the bells anyway. I never liked the fact that you have to fully expand your ground floor just to be able to add one room on the first floor. Why not be able to add it right away? Or, a basement? I never liked having the entrance room of your house be nothing but a hallway. If it was only half as big, then it would make an acceptable hallway, and I could definitely live with that. Also missing out on exterior customisation this way. Ah well, whatever. I feel myself a bit at a loss, the random islands all look the same by now and none of the options available at the Resident Services really appeal to me. The fish and bugs are all the same. It's like I've seen everything already. That was a short game. I love this franchise, where did my joy playing it go? I haven't been able to enjoy playing a game since a long time (mind you, I am growing too old for all the new games and the old ones that I used to love just don't work anymore on todays systems... makes me sad.) I just saw another persons town and I am really glad with the type of weed I got. Not so fond of the flowers but they're okay. Erik is a busy elk, everytime I visit him at home he's crafting something. He gave me three recipes already, I like him. Fauna is outside reading books to the tree saplings, she's a good soul. Meanwhile, Patty just sits around eating candy and Cherry started "singing" next to the town square. Please stop, both of you, and get off my island.

Day 11

Afternoon turnip prices are 135 bells/ turnip. I completely forgot to check this morning unfortunately. That'd be a profit of 247.500 bells. Tempting, but it's only monday. Am I really going to sell everything first chance I get? I found the island with the money rocks on it. That's a solid 81.100 bells. Money is not a high priority at the moment but it was nice seeing a different island for once. Been trying to catch up with fishing, not going too well. Found out I still needed to donate a bitterling, no idea how I missed that in the first place.

Day 12

Turnip prices this morning: 149 bells. No Tom Nook, I am not inviting the horse in the campsite to stay here. I dislike horses. Any other species I would've said yes, but no horse. You already forced me to build the redacted thing, I will not be forced to have a horse living here. Why do this to me, game? Why point out so many bad things about yourself? Why not let me play in peace... Afternoon turnip prices: 179 bells. That's a profit of almost 100%, guess I'll go with it for now. See what other numbers are possible and plan for next week. Also, finally, after spending two hours last night and another 30 minutes this evening, I finally caught a stringfish. It only took 238 fish baits to make it appear... A lot of fishing means a lot of listening to the game sound and I have yet to find a tune that I enjoy. That's quite unfortunate but what can you do. Maybe we'll get a music app for our dumbphone at some point.

Day 13

Turnip prices this morning: 192 bells. The horse is still there, I will tell it to live here, build a wall and trees around their house and net them every time I see them until they get lost. I don't like the annoucements. Everyone who cares about it will visit the campsite to check for campers themselves. I am aware of how the weather will be in spring, no need to tell me. We got a new building? Really? Wow thank you so much for telling me, I would never have noticed it myself at all! Because I never walk around my island! Especially not at places that I decided to put a construction kit! Isabelle, go away. Take the horse and the cow with you and just leave me be. If it wasn't for the quality of life changes in this game I'd go back to my New Leaf town in an instant. On to more positive things: New month, new bugs! Also probably new fish as well but, no more fishing until I can find an acceptable background music, checking every hour now... But back to the good stuff. I caught a Common Bluebottle, a darner dragonfly and a long locust! That's... all.

Day 14

Pleasure to meet you, Flick. I have already found my bug-soulmate though: it's Erik. You're an interesting person though. Tom Nook asked me to build more fences. I built some around the houses of my most treasured villagers, so they can have their own little garden area. He never said anything about gates in the fences though... hehe. Next villager will be: Gloria. I don't recognise the name so I'll just wait and see. I caught a lot of bugs and fish and eggs. So many eggs. Too many eggs in fact, I'll try sending them as gifts to my villagers.
