No pressure, no diamonds.
They say if you put enough pressure
Onto coal
They become diamonds.
They say if you put enough pressure
Towards a goal
Failure can be silenced.
What you don't know,
What you can't hear,
Screams of pain in the strenous plough.
Tormented under the strings of puppeteers.
Achievements? They're expected.
Medals? On display, undetected.
Rewards? Why weren't you selected?
Passing remarks; left dejected.
"Must bottle it all in"
"Maintain this tranquil mask"
"They can't know where my mind's been"
Pushing to perfect each task.
But I can't take it.
Can't take these impossible expectations.
The pressure's scorching me naked.
But the alternative is humiliation.
And whilst diamonds naturally decay
into graphite
And whilst I gradually pull away
dehumanized
They chant:
Stressed backwards is desserts.
Sucking every living breath out of you
Until YOU're lost, whole and true.
We chant:
Stressed backwards is desserts.
And we're coming for you.
Little explanation bit
Okay so like, i am a proponent that you can interpret something however you want haha but heres a bit of backstory for this poem and some references.
"No pressure, no diamonds" ~Thomas Carlyle. it stipulates that if you put enough pressure onto coal they become diamonds.
Diamonds actually do naturally decay into graphite due to the chemical structure of graphite being much more stable than diamonds, however this is SUPER SLOW!!! so you can chill and buy that diamond ring for your fiance. Or buy a graphite one, because graphite lasts forever. I'm a romantic guy, I know. *BOWS*
Stressed is just Desserts spelled backwards - kinda a meme at this point. I use this to show how absurd it is to simply dismiss stress as something trivial and how this indoctrination is ultimately a front.
What am I trying to say with this poem? That's for you to decide.
