Index154: "Decent"★★★☆☆

Posted: 15/May/2020 09:13:25 (3 years ago)

It's a neat game to kill time with when you're bored and it can actually be pretty addicting too. At the core it's all about giving experience points to other people's Pokemon/Eggs and hoping that they return the favor. That's not very engaging by itself but there are enough other things to do and enough regular events to keep you coming back. The community is pretty nice from my experience so far. Haven't had any interactions with staff members so can't say anything about them. The Pokemon variety is good, it's also cool to have multiple different "shiny variants" in the form of albinos and melans. So there's a lot to collect with some things being a million times harder to get than others. My main problem with the site is that it does a really good job at making you want to spend your money on the game by having many little inconveniences that entice you into skipping them. It also makes sure that you don't make too much progress each day in order to spread out your activity and as such make the premium subscription more appealing while also making it necessary to purchase it for longer periods of time. Because of this I'm having this internal struggle about how I know that I'm wasting my income on just a couple of fantasy creature sprites... but at the same time I really want to have them because that's the power of collectathon games I guess. Navigation around the site is okay, finding explanations for all the mechanics is a bit of a process though. One thing I find unnecessarily inconvenient is the breeding (or in other words the biggest part of the shiny hunting) process: Even if you get yourself two parent Pokemon that are nearly perfectly compatible, you'll only be able to adopt 6 eggs from them each day, no matter how many you produce... (or 12 with the paid subscription). To get more eggs you have to adopt them from the Shelter where they've been released to by other players or yourself. My guess is that the intention of this is to make the process more involved or more community-oriented. But to me it's just annoying. Having to reload the Shelter for minutes until I finally get the egg I'm looking for is not fun and it sometimes takes what feels like ages, even with the hidden bonus you get from having a chain. And I don't even wanna imagine what it's like when you're hunting a Pokemon that almost nobody else is producing eggs for... And this leads into my second large complaint about Pokefarm. It's somewhat connected to my first point but more specific: You can upgrade the allowance for daily shelter adoptions by buying upgrades, but it seems to take a considerable amount of time (or alternatively money) to obtain these. And it feels weird to be forced to unlock something by playing the game so you can gain the ability to... play the game more. It's essentially a time-lock that can be upgraded but the upgrades themselves are time-locked. Except that you can remove that lock by paying with real money. Rather sly. And yes, I know you can get the daycare passes on the market but the high level ones cost a considerable amount of money that you're better off investing into the super-pricey Pokeradar anyway. Collecting the credits to buy these things takes time as well and not really less time than getting them yourself. For me, someone who's pretty impatient with stuff like this, - and shiny hunting is bascially my main goal here - this is frustrating, especially since you have to hatch such a huge amount of eggs anyway. I'm willing to spend a lot of my time and do tons of interactions to hatch as many eggs as possible... and it feels like this daily limit just puts artificial brakes on my progress to keep me playing the game for longer so I have to pay for a longer period of Hypermode. Even though I already gave in and bought an upgrade for the shelter I still feel this way. In my opinion a player should be able to control their own rate of progress in a game if they put in the necessary effort. Time-locked content is just a bummer. I somewhat understand that the site probably lives off of making users return every day for long periods of time but I simply don't like that and it's not a choice I can agree to. So to sum it up, I'm in a bit of a love-hate relationship with the site and that's why I tried to give a somewhat middle-ground score. I want to enjoy playing the game as much as possible but these issues just make me feel a bit disappointed whenever my activity is hampered by them.

It's a nice little game but over time it just gets grindy and boring without having to pay for stuff, Melans and albinos are basically just pointlessly waiting for them to hatch with your ULTRASUPEROMEGA COOL GAMER GIRL SHINY MEGA UBERCHARM RADAR and just praying that one of the 6 eggs will get you a melan (and in the end only getting like 2168238 shinies and albinos ) Interactions are pretty meh aswell they give you rewards sure but all you do is just feed the other person's party and click 6 times then just move onto the next page, it's sorta boring I have some sort of template that puts all the interactions and the next page button into one space and that makes it easy, eliminating the method of moving my mouse, But it still kinda hurts my finger. The community's cool I guess. They're pretty nice. That's literally all I have to say about them. Anyways, i'm giving it a 3/5. You can play this if you have an obscene amount of time on your hands, sure, but if you don't like killing time just for some special collectible stuff in endgame, i'm not sure if this is the thing for you.

plantea: "A sweet yet bitter platform"★★★☆☆

Posted: 01/Nov/2019 20:06:21 (4 years ago)

Truthfully speaking, I was profusely questioning whether or not I should publish this review considering I have created an account very recently and therefore haven’t fully experienced everything the site has to offer. Nevertheless, I felt necessary to share my first impressions and my thoughts on this platform so far. For starters, I found myself immediately perplexed by the concept of mass clicking. It is indeed such a brilliant way to create a binding community revolving around the very thing that ties us together; Pokémon. Having been forum-hopping beforehand, I’ve never stumbled across a website with this mechanic (even though I’m sure that there are plenty out there). In my view, Pokéfarm has undeniably done a great job bringing the fandom together to work collectively in order to achieve a goal. In addition, the new array Pokémon (exclusive, custom sprite, shiny, albino, delta and melanistic) is something that has by far captivated me the most and frankly, I don’t believe it gets as much credit as it should. This phenotypical diversity is such an interesting concept that truly magnified my experience. Sure, some may be inclined to bash out its flaws such as the concept of “pay-to-win” regarding melans but, in my humble opinion, the positives definitely outshine the negatives on this one. However, I mustn’t shy away from the downsides. Now, I am very well aware that the review section is already utterly filled with bad comments about the site’s moderators and despite not having had any personal interaction with them whatsoever, I would like to express how someone’s behaviour towards one specific individual can indirectly embitter the rest of community. Disclaimer: I’m not pinpointing at anyone in particular as this is not the point. I guess it is undeniable that there exists a hierarchy in the vast majority of online communities in which there is a clear polarisation between the user and the moderator, the latter of which possessing more control over the site. Therefore it is understandable that some users may feel lesser than the ones running the system, however when that “lesser” feeling escalates into intimidation, this is the point where everything starts to deteriorate. I understand that cultural and perhaps even linguistic differences play a role in this but if for a long time multiple people are calling the mods out for being “intimidating”, “unprofessional”, “rude” and “unpleasant”, then I guess it is high time they thought out their behaviour and choice of words. You see, even if a single comment may be directed towards one individual in particular, it still undeniably has an impact on the community as a whole and when that comment is reeking with rude undertones (be it intentional or not), you bet that’s going to sour everyone up and ultimately repulse some users away. On that topic, I have seen a couple of user reviews being wholesomely redacted (“Reviews with 80% negative user feedback are excluded from totals” — quote extracted from the review page) some without given any exact reason. In all honestly, that’s bound to mess up the review system and I can’t think of any other way to describe this other than “extreme bias”. If there truly is another explanation to this systematic redaction method, please inform me. — Would I recommend Pokéfarm? Yes, it is a very versatile site and like any other platform it has its flaws. If any staff member would like me to clarify anything I mentioned, I’d be happy to and open for discussion! Thank you for reading.

The game can be very tedious sometimes, but it's good for people who are into Pokemon and have a lot of time on their hands.

It's a good time killer and I find it adds a lot of interesting concepts to Pokémon. However, it's probably not a game for those without the patience to passively make your way through without spending money. It's a grind for sure; it takes a lot of interacting and trading. I've managed to do well enough by passively going and clicking to earn Credits, but it takes persistence to keep with it. Because of this, I find myself sometimes leaning away from the game, becoming uninterested in keeping up. With the addition of of more monthly, community-based events and mini games, I find it easier to stay interested and active. My biggest critique? While I've been playing for... 2 or 3 years now (correct me if I'm wrong), I've gotten some friends to join in the last 6 months and they're completely overwhelmed by the events and information and how difficult it is to find everything. Mods have mentioned taking steps to fix this, and its appreciated.

I'll admit, I used to be here extremely often. My only problem is that over time, it becomes so repetitive that it lacks that fun. I understand loving it still, but after a few years, it's not as fun as it was at the start to get new pokemon every day.

For complete transparency, your threads were deleted because they were indeed spam. It doesn't matter how often or rarely you posted, the threads themselves were spam and were therefore removed.

ToastyHyena: "Addicting Site, However..."★★★☆☆

A very simple but addicting game! Since I haven't been here long I look forward to see what the revamp will change about gameplay and the possibilities of new features! The only thing I have an issue with is that it's quite scary hearing about the stories people are telling here/other sites. I myself haven't had an issue, yet I feel worried about how the Staff here act towards players... When browsing responses here I was confused why people disliked them so much, then after reading after the first sentence I realized nothing personally against them but wouldn't like to meet them after looking at their behavior sadly. (Take 'their' with a grain of salt because I'm talking about the people most brought up as I'm 100% sure that most or at least some of the team isn't rude).

Zenobelle: "Decent gaming but needs more interactive features"★★★☆☆

Posted: 07/Aug/2019 02:00:52 (4 years ago)

Decent gaming experience but was hoping for a more interactive and interesting games on site ( example: valentines event quest) After playing for a long time, some of my friends either lose interest or there wasn't any time to play in this site. Since most of the things you do here are buying, selling etc, not very interesting after a long period of time.
