Google made an announcement that all 3rd party extensions not in their Chrome Web store would be disabled. I guess they changed how Chrome behaves now, so that you either have to have the .crx file and go into Developer mode/use Canary to enable 3rd party stuff or have the developers put the extension into the Chrome Web Store. That's what I gathered from reading the above link, anyway.
