The Current Tournament Is P2W, Right?

I've been on the site for a while but recently picked up the game again as my virtual pet addiction kicked back up, and this site's really the one I enjoy the most. (This is my first time using the forum though so hopefully this is in the right place) Don't get me wrong, I love the game. It's incredibly fun and engaging imo, and something that keeps me coming back day by day now. However, this current tournament seems...reletively impossible to win if you're not paying for the gold. Yes, you can trade premium currency between users, but even in that case, someone that's just flat out paying money could easily get more daycare passes and hatch all the eggs they need to take the top spot. If I'm missing something, please let me know, but it feels like this particular tournament, at least, discourages people that aren't paying from doing anything but trying to get the hard goal and calling it there.

i think i'd have to agree, especially with so many users keen to maintain arceus rank with the new releases, a lot of players are much more willing to pay for daycare passes essentially so they can win back arceus rank. especially because i already struggle to get a star pass since i can't afford to buy zc, so the amount of daycare eggs i can find in the shelter is limited too. honestly it's just something i've come to accept now ¯\(º_o)/¯ i never managed to get in the top 100 for the last tournament set when embretta was the prize, and only once for jestur (although i can almost always place in the top 100 when the reward is an older egg). it would be nice to see more accessability for f2p players, especially when it comes to arceus and melan hunting, but i just try to enjoy being here really. i've at least never felt its p2w for the hard target in the tournament, so collecting the tokens for the eggs is relatively simple :)

I thought the same thing too, but I just hatched a few of my eggs and realized that unless you're using daycare passes, you can only get six per day, which means a total of 24...so without having / buying daycare passes it's impossible to get beyond the easy target. I've kinda come to accept it too, just as a fact that obv the players that pay money are the ones that probably keep the site running, but still it's kinda discouraging that you can't f2p the medium target of all things

Absolutely agree. In other tournaments, often paid players can still get an advantage, because that's just the nature of the whole thing, but with this particular one, it's just outright "if you have money to blow on DCP, you'll win this." This tournament is my least favorite, for both that reason and the way the shelter works making it even harder: Specifically, that when you have a shiny chain going, there's the neat little feature that increases the chance of an egg you're hunting appearing... Except it's made to grab whichever eggs have been in the shelter the longest, meaning it will keep grabbing the same egg over and over again. So unless you mass click enough to get enough of your own eggs to absolutely flood the shelter, you're gonna have issues finding your own eggs, and the shiny chain boost to finding that type of egg won't help at all, unless your eggs are the oldest. Edit:

I just wanted to mention that it is possible to get beyond easy when f2p; the eggs don't have to be adopted directly from the daycare, if you release eggs into the shelter and adopt them, so long as they were bred in your shelter, they still count towards the tournament!

Agreeing with the edit for above. Absolutely this is more difficult if you're F2P, I still think only having a single full party's worth of adoptions for free for an entire day if you don't have Hypermode is extremely limiting. However you can do some clicking and release your eggs to the shelter, adopting them from there. No doubt it's a bit more difficult without the freebie adoptions but the harder goals are still absolutely doable.

Oh I totally misunderstood the shelter thing. I guess that makes it more possible, but you'd still be relying on seeing your eggs in there. Not impossible, but definitely more of a pain. I'm glad the harder goals are at least doable, but this particular tournament just puts me off a bit overall. Hopefully there's less of the daycare egg tournaments in the future, cause I can't really think of another tournament that's had this level of discrepency where you gotta work around the preexisting mechanics if you're f2p. I know this isn't a suggestions board but something like a hold-off on the egg limit during tournaments like this would be nice.

The tournament isn't as P2W as you think. I was a little worried seeing this tournament as the first of the season, anticipating it turning into a "buying dcp" tournament. There's still a chance that the top 10, 20, etc of the tournament will just be whoever can buy the most dcp. But as for scoring 90 points for the hard goal? Easily doable, if you can release your own eggs to the shelter and hatch them. It takes more effort, sure, to breed that many eggs, and then to check the heritage of each shelter egg you find, but it's certainly not impossible. When it comes to top 100 / egg winners, I can't predict how fierce the competition will be, but so far, I'm doing pretty well in 18th place with no DCP.

Honestly I'd love if they just got rid of this particular tournament entirely. Though I doubt they will. :/ Especially with how it's the first tournament of the new season, I'd guess it was probably an intentional decision, knowing how many people are going to be gunning for top 100 to keep arceus rank, and it'll probably generate revenue for the site.

I'm 99% sure, though I can't provide direct quotes, just testimony from memory, that tournaments are always randomly decided, there is no "intentional decision." (And this has produced issues in the past - also from memory, I remember at least one time where a randomly-decided tournament clashed with another site event, I believe it was the type race, and the tournament had to be changed to just "hatch eggs"?)

Oh, that's entirely possible! I honestly assumed that was how it was, but was thinking maybe the first tournament of the season was manually chosen, because this seemed to be such a good coincidence for potential site revenue lol! Well, my main point still works, I doubt they'd get rid of a tournament that potentially helps the site!
