(Updates at the end of this post) If you were a user on PokéFarm 1, before PFQ happened, you might remember a feature that re-created the experience of the Pokéwalker from HeartGold/SoulSilver. Well, it's back!
The Pokéwalker is back and better than ever. Take your Pokémon for a walk... in real life! This new and improved Pokéwalker allows you to transfer Pokémon to your mobile device and journey with it by your side. Doing so will accumulate Watts. Hunt for Pokémon and Items Take the Watts you've earned and spend them on two minigames: - One allows you to hunt for and catch wild Pokémon - The other lets you search for items of various rarities In both cases, the rarity of what you find will increase the further you have walked so far in the day. Transfer to PFQ Once you've filled your inventory with new Pokémon and hidden items, you can Transfer them to the site. They will be deposited in the Trade Centre's collection area for you to pick up when you're ready, so you can continue using the Pokéwalker without interruption.
Fast access You can add the Pokéwalker to your phone's Home Screen for quick and easy access to the feature. Minimal data usage We're very much aware that not everyone enjoys unfettered access to mobile data. I hear in America "unlimited data" is almost a foreign concept! But in any case, the Walker has been carefully designed to use the least possible amount of data while still functioning well. You'd be hard pressed to use up even one Megabyte of data in an entire day. Minimal battery usage Battery life is of course the other problem with a feature like this. Once again, care has been taken to keep battery usage down. In particular, you can turn your phone off and still receive credit for distance, provided you check in every so often. The GPS is also disabled when you navigate the menu or play the minigames. Technically just an image The new Pokéwalker is created with SVG ("Scalable Vector Graphics"). It's all just one very, very interactive image! In fact... did you see the image of the Pokéwalker earlier in this post? That's it. You've already downloaded it! No app to download, no need to worry about storage space, the entire Pokéwalker is only about 16KB in size - and most of that is just animation code... animations are hard >_< Does it sound awesome enough yet? Go ahead and try it out!
Update 14/Oct: An automatic "rescue" feature has been added in case your Pokémon somehow become lost in limbo. Visit the Pokéwalker (link above) if you were affected by this and you will see an "Emergency Rescue" section informing you of the completed rescue.
Update 15/Oct: Your progress in catching various Pokémon from the Pokéwalker is now tracked. When you go to select an area, your progress for that area will be shown. This works just like the original Pokéwalker did, by the way. Each area has six Pokémon to find, but only three will be chosen when you send your Pokémon there. You will need to withdraw and re-enter (or just change areas) to find different Pokémon. Also, some Pokémon are hidden behind distance requirements that must have been met in the current day, however each area has three hidden "Advantage Types" - if your Pokémon matches an Advantage Type, the distance requirements for finding rarer Pokémon are reduced. There will soon be rewards for catching many different Pokémon, so feel free to get a head start - if you recently enjoyed many Rank Rewards from yesterday's site update, you'll know what this feels like!
