I have this headcanon that if a fire pokémon gets emotional, they forget about their surroundings a bit and can burn up inflammable objects like leaves in the process. So yeah... if questions arise why there are footprints on the grass in the first place, there's the explanation.

@JirachiStar5525: Well, I wouldn't call her a saint, but not a heartless dictator, either. Crescent will play an important part in the story and she's planned to be somewhat of an obstacle, but she isn't the main antagonist.
